Home Organization
My Decluttering Process
1. Choose ONE drawer, closet, or room.
Decide how much time you have. If you have an hour, choose a drawer. If you have a few hours, choose a closet. If you have a day, choose a room.
2. Remove Items
Take everything out of the drawer, closet, or room.
3. Keep and return to space, relocate, donate, or toss
Make 4 piles: Keep and return to space, relocate, sell, donate, or toss.
– Decide if you need any organization materials and how you are going to organize the items you are returning to the space.
– Pick up each item only one time. Ask yourself, “Keep and return, relocate, sell, donate, or toss.” Make a pile of all keep and return items. Make a separate pile of items that you want to keep but that need to find a different home in your house. Have one bin or bag to place items for sale and one bin or bag to place items for donation. Finally, as a last container, have your garbage can and recycle bin nearby to toss damaged items or items that are missing parts.
4. Clean the space and add necessary organizational pieces
Return the items to the newly clean space. Take a breath and smile at your progress.
5. Finish your piles
– Make a plan to put your items for sale within one week.
– Put your items for donation in the car and MAKE A PLAN for when and where you will drop them off.
6. Take a deep breath, Smile, and congratulate yourself on a wonderful accomplishment.
